Most HP printers can join your Wi-Fi network using the HP Smart app, the printer's built-in Wireless Setup Wizard, or WPS if your router supports it. Once connected, you can print from any device on the same network without using a USB cable.

**1. Put the printer in setup mode**

If this is a first-time setup, the printer may already be in setup mode. If not, restore network settings: on the printer's control panel, open the **Wireless** or **Network** menu, then select **Restore Network Settings** or **Restore Defaults**. The exact steps vary by model, so check your manual on [support.hp.com](https://support.hp.com) if needed.

**2. Choose a connection method**

Use one of the three methods below. The HP Smart app is usually the simplest.

> **HP Smart app (recommended)**
>
> Open the HP Smart app on your computer or phone. Tap or click **Add Printer** and select your printer from the list. Follow the on-screen steps to connect the printer to your Wi-Fi network. You may need to enter your Wi-Fi password in the app.

> **Wireless Setup Wizard on the printer**
>
> On the printer's control panel, open the **Wireless**, **Network**, or **Setup** menu. Select **Wireless Setup Wizard**. The printer will scan for networks. Choose your Wi-Fi name (SSID), enter your password using the on-screen keyboard or buttons, and confirm. The exact menu names vary by model.

> **WPS push button**
>
> If your router has a WPS button, press it. Within two minutes, on the printer's control panel go to the **Wireless** or **WPS** menu and select **WPS Push Button**. The printer will connect automatically without needing a password.

> [!NOTE]
>
> Many HP printers only connect to 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi networks. If your router broadcasts separate 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz network names, connect the printer to the 2.4 GHz network. If you have a single network name for both bands, the router should handle switching automatically.

> [!TIP]
>
> If you do not have a router or need to print from a phone directly, use Wi-Fi Direct. Enable Wi-Fi Direct in the printer's **Wireless** or **Network** menu, then connect your phone to the printer's direct network name and print using the HP Smart app.

> [!WARNING]
>
> If the printer fails to connect, move it closer to the router, check that you entered the correct Wi-Fi password, and verify that your network is using WPA2 or WPA3 security. Restart the printer and router, then try again.
