If your HP printer won't connect to Wi-Fi, the most common cause is a wrong password or a network setting that the printer doesn't support. This guide walks you through the fixes that work for most home and small-office setups.

## Quick checks

**1. Double-check your Wi-Fi password**

Re-enter the password carefully. Wi-Fi passwords are case-sensitive. If you recently changed your router password, the saved password on the printer is now outdated.

**2. Check your network band**

Many HP printers only connect to 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi. If your router broadcasts a 5 GHz-only network, switch to a 2.4 GHz band or enable a combined 2.4/5 GHz network in your router settings.

**3. Move the printer closer to the router**

Walls, appliances, and distance weaken the signal. Place the printer within 10 feet of the router during setup, then move it to its normal location once connected.

## Other causes and fixes

> **Router changed or new password**
>
> If you got a new router or changed the Wi-Fi password, the printer still has the old network settings. Restore the printer's network settings to default through its control panel, then set up Wi-Fi again. The exact menu path varies by model, so check your manual on [support.hp.com](https://support.hp.com) if needed.

> **VPN or guest network isolation**
>
> VPNs on your computer can block the printer from being discovered. Turn off the VPN during setup. Guest networks often isolate devices, so use your main home network instead.

> **Firewall blocking the printer**
>
> Computer or router firewalls can block printer discovery. Temporarily disable the firewall during setup, then re-enable it. If the printer drops offline, add it to the firewall's allowed list.

> **Run the wireless network test report**
>
> Print a wireless network test report from the printer's control panel to see detailed connection status and error codes. Look for a **Wireless** or **Network Setup** menu, then select **Print Wireless Test Report**. Use the error details on [support.hp.com](https://support.hp.com) to find model-specific steps.
