You can install HP printer software and drivers on Windows or Mac in several ways: using the HP setup site, HP Smart app, or the built-in printer tools in your operating system. This guide covers the most reliable methods so you can print quickly.

Install from 123.hp.com

1

Go to the setup site

Open a browser and visit https://123.hp.com. Enter your HP printer model and follow the prompts.
2

Download the recommended software

The site will suggest the best software package for your model, usually HP Smart or a full-feature driver. Download the installer.
3

Run the installer

Open the downloaded file and follow the on-screen steps. Connect via USB or Wi-Fi when prompted.

Install from support.hp.com

1

Visit HP Software and Drivers

Go to https://support.hp.com and select Software and Drivers. Enter your printer model.
2

Choose your operating system

Select Windows or macOS, then pick the driver type you want (full feature or basic).
3

Download and install

Download the file, run it, and follow the setup wizard to finish installation.

Add a printer without HP software

1

Open Printers & scanners

Go to Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
2

Add your printer

Click Add device. If your HP printer appears, select it and wait for Windows to install the driver automatically.
3

Add manually if needed

If the printer does not appear, click Add manually, choose the connection type (Wi-Fi or USB), and follow the prompts.
Windows may install a basic driver that supports printing and scanning without extra HP software.
1

Open Printers & Scanners

Go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners.
2

Add your printer

Click the + button. Select your HP printer from the list.
3

Use AirPrint

If available, choose AirPrint from the Use menu. AirPrint lets you print and scan without installing extra drivers.
Most modern HP printers support AirPrint on macOS and iOS. If AirPrint is not listed, download the driver from https://123.hp.com.

USB vs. wireless setup

Connect the printer to your computer with a USB cable. The installer or your operating system should detect the printer automatically. USB is useful if your Wi-Fi is not ready.
During setup, choose wireless when prompted. Make sure your computer and printer are on the same Wi-Fi network. If the installer cannot find the printer, check that the printer is connected to Wi-Fi first.
Control panel menus vary by printer model. If you cannot find a menu or button mentioned in setup prompts, check your model’s manual on https://support.hp.com.
